Photovoltaics become matter: technical-commercial agreement Kino Workshop, Lumyra and New Line SPA

Energy efficiency is a non-negotiable parameter, but its application must not compromise the visual perception of a building. Traditional photovoltaic modules, while remaining the primary choice for non-visible flat roofs, represent a volumetric and aesthetic obstacle where the building envelope is the protagonist or in historical contexts subject to landscape heritage constraints. 

To maintain total control over integrated architecture, Kino Workshop has signed a technical-commercial agreement with Lumyra and New Line SPA, leaders in BIPV (Building Integrated Photovoltaics) systems. 

This technology shifts energy production from the applied system to the construction material. The building envelope becomes active through three engineered product lines:

Balustrades and Curtain Walls: Laminated and tempered safety glass. These integrate silicon or thin-film cells that produce energy, modulate visual transparency (up to 80%) and act as thermal and acoustic barriers, replacing standard passive glazing and producing up to 120 W/sqm.

Walkable and Driveable Flooring: Anti-slip glass slabs (R11 certification) and totally waterproof (IP68). Tested to withstand loads up to 3500kg, they transform plazas, terraces, and walkways into active generators without sacrificing living space, producing up to 160 W/sqm.

Integrated Roofing: Hail-resistant tempered glass elements that faithfully replicate the geometries and colors of traditional clay tiles and shingles. They eliminate the visual impact of technology, ensuring the necessary kW and facilitating approvals from heritage authorities in historic centers.

Integrating BIPV technology means the solar system is no longer and “add-on”. We calculate energy production during volume modeling and facade studies, merging aesthetics with electrical demand.
